a lot of them. some insight here & we could wish for more, but there isn't much directly from this era with hunter talkin' in person. it's a funny interview for him at the time as he's trying to get back on his feet as a name apart from the dead (& with his band comfort not playing many songs the dead did of his live), but he's caught in his dead-connection fame. it's completely intertwined in his life & the dj sets up the interview to mostly go thru dead lps, having him mention something about a number of the more well-known dead tunes. pretty cool but at almist every point i wish he would go further into it. too much in too little time eve tho' there's more than ah hour of talkin'. at the time the interview would have seemed lacking a bit for how little hunter talks about his own material & comfort. but in those days i would have been equally fascinated by the dead info. these days, it seems absolutely sad that more isn't about hunter's "non-dead" material & comfort themselves... on the road with an 8 piece band playing clubs - fine times & they were playing outstanding, energetic music. listen, enjoy, show appreciation, share, give, spread peace. yers truly, knees, omitted track 36 - audio transcription ::: 25 seconds of with "terrapin station" album track in background while dj talks. denis mcnamara, "that's clearly(?) an awful lot of music and there's no denying your contribution has been immense to the type of music that i personally play on the radio & a lot of people have been effected by over the last 10 years. what does it do to you as you approach a career of your own going out & doing some touring now?", support the artist!, do whatever you want with it except sell it, 'cause that ain't cool! C  ***

sbd 2nd remaster, (with larry klein), unknown club (m?-sbd), september 22. 1978, this is a remaster of a remaster, so first the original notes:, recording information: stereo soundboard > master analog stereo tape (reel-to-reel?) > unknown analog generations (not many 1 or 2?) > unknown low generation maxell xlii-90 cassette, dolby on (seems to be very narrow stereo mix)., playback 2014-01-12: unknown generation maxell xlii-90 cassette on nakamichi 680zx cassette deck, dolby b on, azimuth & speed adjusted (pitched!) for individual recording, heads cleaned & demagnetized > sony linear pcm recorder pcm-m10 (lpcm 44.10khz/16bit wav files) > computer > audacity [normalization to remove dc offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, no equalisation] > cd wave (track splits) > flacs (trader's little helper) > yr ears., first uploaded week of 2014-02-29. (note: pitch varies slightly, within what i considered to be a normal range & not worth messing with & also lent itself to the reel master theory)., exc quality stereo sbd. check samples for sonorous absorbability prognostication or brief pulsatory earbytes., ::: warts: note many! tape in exc shape. remarkably few dullspots & most i found were repairable. few odd noises early in show as larry gets used to his new bass - mostly repaired. tapeflip(?) splice in 1st part of #11 (not really audible anymore). bit o' line hum & hiss in last 20 minutes as master levels were much lower than the rest. #22 spliced at 1:16 & cuts at 1:38. several times taper must have realised levels were too hot when singing started & lowered them., tape only labeled "buffalo" & date. couldn't find venue online. buffalo mentioned in "truckin" & aud cheers. at one point bob says, "it's great to be back at 'alcos'."(or? club name?). do you know the venue name?, buffalo was the first show of the tour which likely ended 1978-10-16 at the other end in new york city., now the 2nd remaster notes:, adobe audition 1.5 (eq) > izotope rx (nr) > aa again (waves noise supressor, minor peak limiting, splits & fades) > tlh (sbe fix, flac 8), this tape clearly had several generations on it from the master because it had quite a bit of hiss and a low frequency hum. the first thing i did was eq the file with adobe audition so it had too much high end. this allowed the noise reduction to cut the highs with the hiss without ruining the sound. the resulting too bright file was then run through izotope rx to remove the noise. it was then returned to aa and run through a second level of broadband noise reduction with a waves plugin. this subdued the hiss and hum considerably except for the final 20 minutes. as mentioned above, this part was recorded much quieter than the rest of the show, and i didn't want to process it to death, so it still is a bit noisier than the rest of the show., don't be scared by the words "noise reduction". i know that a lot of people avoid recordings that have nr processing, but a lot has changed over the years. nr is much more sophisticated today than it was in the past. anyone who has heard the version of pink floyd's pepperland show released by myself and my partners at mqr (rolf's pepperland bomb) can attest to the quality of the nr we use and the lack of significant artifacts. this show has improved condsiderably in clarity without perceptable nr artifacts., now i'll be honest here. i did the work on this for archival purposes, but i don't see how anyone can actually listen to this. hunter is a terrible musician and an even worse singer, and anyone who considers him- or herself to be a grateful dead fan should not be subjected to listening to him brutalize these songs like this. i can barely recognize songs i know and love as bob strums sloppily on his out of tune guitar and sings tunelessly through them. fire on the mountain is a travesty. not even the song, just the words rapped super fast over unrecognizable guitar fumblery. but to each his own. if you can enjoy this show then i hope i've helped clean it up and make it even more pleasurable for you. --}{eywood. july 2015, 01 sugaree, 02 rum runners, 03 come to life >, 04 bertha, 05 cruel white water, 06 cats under the stars, 07 tiger rose, 08 peggy-o > direwolf > peggy-o > direwolf, 09 attics of my life, 10 china cat sunflower > the eleven > china cat sunflower >, 11 fire on the mountain > ballad of buddy holly (all the same) > fire on the mountain >, 12 ramble on rose, 13 harp tree lament, 14 us blues >, 15 truckin', 16 ballad of buddy holly (all the same) >, 17 scarlet begonias, 18 friend of the devil >, 19 ripple >, 20 boys in the bar room, 21 wharf rat >, 22 brokedown palace//, total time ::: 1:32:32, line-up:, robert hunter - acoustic guitar with effects, vocals, larry klein - fender 4-string electric bass (his 6-string alembic had just been lost en route)., dimetravel 012 :, thanks to the original taper & traders!, corrections welcome, this one goes out in memory of rich petlock (one fine bloke), and with a nod to mr.berger & alan b, without whom we'd be missing many of our existing early hunter recordings.
